Gift Guide: Unique Gifts for Tiki Lovers

Welcome to the first of several 2020 Mid-century Millennial Gift Guide drops! This one is near and dear to my heart as a Tiki lover myself, complete with my own in-progress Texas Tiki bar which you can peep after the gift guide below. Stay tuned throughout the next several weeks for more gift guides ranging in sensibilities.

Do you need to be a Tiki fanatic to find something from this list? Absolutely not.

Even if you or your giftee doesn’t drink Tiki drinks, I’ve compiled some more unique items with a “quarantine oasis at home” flair. I’ve included a variety of price points and always enjoy highlighting smaller businesses with a unique offering. However where there was a unique offering that could get to you on-schedule I have provided Amazon Affiliate links. Some of these items may be available (like the #1 Tiki cocktail book) in your local markets, I picked this up from Book People in Austin, TX but wanted to provide the details in a geo-friendly link that guaranteed accessible shipping.

Tiki lover (or anyone who needs a vacation) gift guide

Without further ado, let’s get into it:

  1. Tiki: Modern Tropical Cocktails
The IACP 2020 winner in the Beer, Wine, & Spirits category, Shannon (Brooklyn-based bartender) Mustipher's book on exotic cocktails offers a refreshingly modern take on tiki. With original recipes, techniques, tasting notes and recommendations, and tips on style and music, Tiki is an inspirational resource for cocktail lovers ready to explore fine Caribbean rums.

  2. Hemingway Tiki Mug

Special note: this does ship from a lovely seller in the UK so shipping is higher for US residents but the total cost still feels doable for such a unique, handmade gift if it’s in your price range AND they let me know they hand make each order so if it appears out of stock, it will come back shortly once they fire a few more.

  3. Tiki Cocktail Coupe Glasses
8oz vintage style with a completely modern Tiki bar vibe coupe glassware that would be great for champagne celebrations, a painkiller or mocktail.

  4. Trader Vic’s Mai Tai Glass - & Stainless Steel Shaker
Trader Vic’s online store is nothing short of amazing for great gift options. I chose this combination for shaking your cocktails the same way this 1934 classic OG Tiki bar shakes their drinks using it’s signature 1944 Mai Tai glass and a stainless shaker.

  5. Rattan Earrings
Rattan earrings to Tiki-up any outfit.

  6. Pineapple Pin-up Cutting Board

I’ve recently fallen in love with the many options on Society6 to support independent artists and purchase a broad range of products with their designs. Kelly Gilleran has an amazing collection of pin-up styled food and beverages that can be turned into anything from a simple print to shower curtains and beyond.

  7. Seashell Pillow

The price point is high on this one. I actually bought my own seashell pillow from The Woven West on Etsy but she is currently sold-out and may of the other creators on Etsy have long shipping timelines and high costs from the UK. Keep checking her for a re-stock because the quality is amazing. I chose to link the Swan’s House (NYC) because when I want to pretend I have all the money in the world I peruse their website for both vintage and new home goods that make me feel all the feels.

  8. Swizzle Sticks

A prevalent theme in contemporary Puerto Rican artist Enoc Perez’s work is the love and admiration he holds for architecture, and the alluring spirit of a cocktail. Hold all of that in your hand with these dazzlingly stylish swizzle sticks, inspired by Perez’s extensive collection accumulated over years spent frequenting hotels. Now your drink can be an architectural masterpiece, too.

  9. Coco Lopez Coconut Cream
My go-to for any creamy Tiki Drink. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with Coco Lopez.

  10. Lewis Ice Bag

You can’t replace crushed with ice with regular cubes, many iconic cocktails and recipes just wouldn’t be the same. Moscow mules, mint juleps, daiquiris, and more all benefit from fresh crushed ice. CANVAS BAG NATURALLY ABSORBS EXCESS WATER TO KEEP ICE CRISP - This is the real trick for achieving the best-crushed ice. When you break the ice, you also create residual water.

  11. Martin Denny 3 Colored Vinyl Bundle
Jackpot Records re-released seminal work of Martin Denny, lounge music pioneer and the father of exotica. These audiophile-grade reissues come pressed on limited edition 180g color vinyl.Experience the laid-back international rhythms of Denny’s quintessential albums from the late1950s in their highest quality yet. Bundle includes all three Martin Denny limited colored vinyl LP’s: “EXOTICA”, “QUIET VILLAGE” & “HYPNOTIQUE.” You can also purchase

These items are all new vintage-inspired Tiki but there are so many amazing gift options in the vintage arena. The pandemic sadly closed the physical doors of Rave On Vintage in Austin, but the silver lining means their Tiki inventory online is fire. I like picking up vintage bar menus, mugs, art and more kitschy flair from their online store and pro-tip: they typically have amazing sale prices.

Stay tuned for my next gift guide this upcoming Friday that will cover record player setups for beginners - this is one of my most commonly requested recommendations! Let me know in the comments if you are on the hunt for anything specifically this holiday season that you would like to see covered in future guides throughout the rest of November.
