One Room Challenge Week 3: DIY Bathroom Renovation Costs

I’ve never been the tightest budgeter. But, I know how to work a spreadsheet, I have done project management professionally and I’ve never had enough money to ignore my budget.

So for this week’s One Room Challenge blog, I decided to focus on the finances, with a transparent breakdown of my One Room Challenge DIY Bathroom Renovation.

Read on if you want the real-life, fully transparent costs and savings of my DIY bathroom remodel for the Spring 2022 One Room Challenge.

My Real DIY Bathroom Remodel Costs

No two bathroom renovations will look the same, here’s what was in scope for mine:

And here’s what my current projected project cost is looking like for my DIY bathroom renovation:

So how does this compare to a standard renovation and average DIY renovations?

Mid-century Millennial cost per SF does not deduct sponsored products for accuracy of actual goods.

In summary, I am doing this DIY renovation very much on a budget. Most of our cost savings are in sacrificing our own time in lieu of professional labor, which comes at a cost to be sure. We are likely slower, waste materials and could possibly be getting paid to use our time in other ways so this isn’t a perfect cost analysis.

But in the end, I’m still confident that DIYing suits our pace, budget and appetite for now.

So, I will continue the trend this week that will be a thing until week 8, this week I will be hoping to make up for lost time.

In the meantime, I’m curious if any of you were surprised by the cost breakdown? Or do you have a follow-up question regarding budgeting for this project or your own? I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
